FORMED in 2009, UIDAI is headed by Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani. It is on the verge to issue unique identity numbers to Indian residents. The first batch of Unique Identification (UID) number will be rolled out by August 2010 and second batch by February 2011.
The aim of this initiative is to make every citizen of the nation to participate in public services, and to reach out to those 50 percent of the population who are unable to get benefits offered by the government.
