Prometric offers revaluation of CAT scores

Mumbai: Students who appeared for the common entrance test (CAT) for admissions into the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and are not satisfied with their marks, they can go for re-check of their scores.

Prometric, the American firm which had organised the computer-based CAT for IIMs has reportedly agreed to re-evaluate the scores of disstatisfied students.

Prometric India managing director Soumitra Roy has claimed that the entire process by which individual scores were calculated has been made public. "We have maintained transparency and are absolutely confident that the scores and rankings are accurate. owever, if students feel that there has been a mistake, they can request a re-check of their scores,” Roy said.
Interested students can write to the customer care email id that they have been given, for a re-check. However, the students will not be given raw scores.

IIT Hyderabad starts admission for 2010-11 batch

Hyderabad: The IIT Hyderabad has invited applications from the candidates seeking to join the Ph.D and M.Tech programmes.

Admissions are open for Mechanical, Chemical, Computer Science, and Engineering, Electrical, Civil, Infrastructure Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering branches.

The last date for application for admission is 20th April, 2010 and the session will start from July 2010.

Candidates can apply for more than one Ph.D programme separately and the candidates applying for M.Tech should have a degree in B.Tech or B.E with first division.

GMAT fee waived for Indian students

Hyderabad: After the US and European students, the Indian students too will be able to write the Graduate Management Admission Test or GMAT for free. The GMAT is a standardised computer-based exam used by more than 4,750 graduate business programmes in nearly 1,900 business schools world-wide.

Students write the GMAT to get admission into top business schools across the world and need to pay $ 250 to register for exam.

However, the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), which owns and administers the GMAT, has decided to extend the fee waiver scheme for 'economically disadvantaged' students in India.

B-schools that participate in GMAT will be able to receive up to 10 fee waivers, and in some cases more, if schools run admissions programmes that are targeted at such students. Schools will then issue the waivers to

Virginia Tech Univarsity may be first Foreign varsity to set up campus in India

CHENNAI: Virginia Tech University, one of the oldest in the United States, will be the first foreign varsity to set up campus in Tamil Nadu. The campus will come up at Marg Swarnabhoomi, a special economic zone situated on the East Coast Road, 75km from Chennai.

A memorandum of understanding in this regard was signed by GRK Reddy, Marg managing director, and Dr Charles W Steger, president, Virginia Tech, on March 8.

Only last week, the Union cabinet cleared the Foreign Educational Institutions (regulation of entry and operation) Bill, which allows foreign universities to set up campuses in India. The Bill was adopted without changes and is expected to be introduced in Parliament in the current session.

Virginia Tech will set up campus on 30 acres and plans were being worked out, Reddy told TOI, adding, “We expect the work to start in two months.” The institution, to be called Virginia Tech MARG Swarnabhoomi, India, will be the first campus of the university outside the US.
A statement on the university website quoted Steger as saying, “This is a historic moment for Virginia Tech. Virginia Tech will create a place in India where engineers, students, and high-tech science professionals from the United States and India will work together and learn from each other.
Together, they will create things that none of them could do alone. Equally important, I envision this campus as a springboard to further partnerships with the private sector as well as research institutes throughout India and south Asia.”

Several reputed universities are said to be in the queue to set up campuses in India. In TN, several institutions have collaborations with foreign varsities. Notable among them are the Vellore Institute of Technology, Sastra in Thanjavur and the SSN Engineering College, situated near Chennai.

B.Tech (Information and Communication Technology)

Eligibility: Candidates should be a pass in the 12th standard or its equivalent with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry/Computer Science; be born on or after 01 October 1985; appear in AIEEE 2010 examination being conducted by CBSE on 25th April, 2010; submit a separate application to DA-IICT in the prescribed application form

Selection process: Short-listed candidates will be called for counseling at DA-IICT and selection for admission will be based on the All India rank of AIEEE 2010. Details are available at DA-IICT website

A limited number of seats will be offered through a separate channel called Direct Admission of Foreign and NRI students (DAFS) to Non-Resident Indians, foreign nationals and persons of Indian origin

Infosys announced the National winners of Aspirations-2020

Hyderabad: Infosys Technologies announced the National winners of Aspirations2020, an online programming contest organized by the Infosys Campus Connect Program.
The winning team from Dwarkadas J Sanghvi College of Engineering, Mumbai received a certificate and cash prize of 1.5 lakh rupees, and the runners up team from Galgotias College of Engineering and Technology, Noida received a certificate and cash prize of Rs 1.2 lakh rupees.
